The world of China 12
Uncategorized / January 10, 2017

The following are a series of posts describing the world, (about 40 years from now), of China 12 and how it got that way.   No 1 The war had begun earlier than most people realised. The instability of the 2010 and 2020s had brought Russia to the belief that she didn’t need to fight a great war at all. Western economic weakness and liberal hand-wringing was all that was needed as a prerequisite. The desperation of the peoples flowing from Asia and central and northern Africa required only the sprinkling of organisation and direction to turn themselves from a flight from fear to an army of invasion. And they came. Across the narrow sea from the middle-east to the Greek islands, driving out the vestiges of authority left there. But, in even greater numbers, they came from north Africa to Sicily where the local criminal organisations had been primed and paid. From there onto the Italian peninsula itself and driving north before being stopped just south of Naples by a combined Franco-Italian force and then there was stalemate. In the north of Europe Russia had made her move, taking eastern Ukraine and then invading Latvia. Surprisingly NATO had mustered enough unity and will…

The China 12
Uncategorized / January 9, 2017

China 12   Unsurprisingly the China 12 has 12 members, or it usually has. The breakdown is three operatives to nine experts. The experts are balanced to the mathematical end of the sciences but most of them have a qualification in more than one field. For ever piece of evidence that comes in there is someone who can evaluate and place it within the map, (Milo likes to think of it as a tapestry), of the problem. The three operatives are in the field, finding, hunting and making evaluations of their own. Their work is dangerous. By the time Milo fell into and became entangled in the the case of the Brancusi head, he was a the agency’s sole operative. Both of his field colleagues had been murdered in Brazil. Brazil represented the group’s first failure, though no subsequent crime group has solved the case either and it remains ‘technically’ open (China 12 do now actually know what happened, as detailed in the “Brancusi’s Head …”, but as they cannot point the authorities to anyone they might arrest it remains “unsolved”). The sad loss of two operatives was a huge blow, from which they struggled to recover. The case which…

Who are the China 12?

The China 12, or China 12, are a ‘Mastermind Group’. The sort of group first described by Napoleon Hill in the 1930s. Since thinking was outsourced in the late 2020s, groups such as this one sprang up to attack various governmental problems. This one solves crime. Crimes are posted on internet notice boards and groups bid to solve them. An algorithm balancing cost, the seriousness of the crime, the reputation and clean-up rate of the group, works out the most cost effective bid and they win the right to atempt to solve the crime. China 12 is one of the top groups, specialising in complex, international crimes. Their biggest success came when they broke up a pirate group in the eastern med region, operating out of the islands off Greece and Lebanon. China 12 try to balance their members between the sciences and the social sciences, they also try to have an Historian on board. The core of their system relies on Mathematics and probability. The operatives come from a variety of backgrounds but they tend to favour people with a ‘special forces’ history. This experience allows them to be independent when the circumstances demand but retain a ‘chain of…
